My 7 year old is a Transformer addict. We bought this a year ago and it is still a favorite Transformer. As an adult, I admit I have more issues trying to transform these creatures than my son, but he whips through it quickly. As with just about all Transformers this has pieces that could be easily lost, but if your child is into Transformers, they already know that and most keep pretty good track of where they shoot the projectiles or put the smaller pieces.
